PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Lake Bridges Project addresses the long-term transportation needs in the Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake region. The project is comprised of the planning, design and construction of a new bridge crossing over each lake.

Previous studies and maintenance inspection reports label both the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake (Tennessee River) and the Lawrence Memorial Bridge over Lake Barkley (Cumberland River) as “functionally obsolete.” Both bridges were constructed in 1932 and raised with the impoundment of their respective lakes. They have continuing maintenance issues, are very narrow and are in need of replacement.

The Lake Bridges Project is now in the design phase. During this phase, decisions will include what type of bridges to build, precise right-of-way needs, aesthetic treatments such as landscapes, sound barrier locations and types, and a construction schedule.
