ROUND 2 – DEVELOP PRELIMINARY ALTERNATIVES (COMPLETE)

This round of bridge type selection consists of using the public feedback from Round 1, as well as engineering and preliminary cost evaluations to identify a smaller number of more refined draft alternatives for public feedback.

  • Identification of Draft Alternatives. At the outset of Round 2, the Baker-Palmer Team will collaboratively, with the Cabinet and the UKTC, identify feasible bridge alternatives for each site that best address the concerns voiced by the public and key stakeholders, as well as key engineering constraints. Several alternatives per bridge site will be recommended.

  • Conceptual Engineering. Once the draft alternatives have been identified and before they are fully prepared for presentation, a level of analysis and engineering will be performed for each of the alternatives to verify feasibility. From the start, we will take great care to only show concepts that are technically practical.

  • Round Two Meetings. Meeting again with the CAC and the public, the Baker-Palmer Team will present this smaller group of draft alternatives for preference polling and comment through the Structured Public Involvement process. This feedback is especially useful in refining the draft alternatives and to identify final alternatives. During this round the project team will lead the CAC on a tour of both bridge sites, from both the land and the water perspectives. Final alternatives will be recommended and approved for final consideration.

  • Rendering and Computer Visualization. For each of the draft alternatives, we will develop additional computer renderings and animations. These will likely include a driver’s perspective, boater’s perspective, shore views, biker/pedestrian perspective and a fly-over/around animation.
